Mental health isn’t just a topic of conversation: it’s a vital part of life and its own journey.
Witnessing friends and peers struggle with issues such as stress, anxiety, and depression motivated us to take action through the Girl Scout Gold Award project. Recognizing the stigma around accessing resources in my communities, our goal is to empower teens to build resilience, learn to cope and develop healthy mental well-being.
We aim to provide valuable information, support, and resources to teens facing mental health challenges. Partnering with Teen Talk, we hope to extend my impact beyond our local community and contribute to the broader conversation on teen mental health on a national scale. Together, we can create a supportive environment where teenagers thrive mentally, emotionally, and socially.
Meet Us
Nysha Prasad founded Mind Matters, a project that began as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award and has since grown into a comprehensive initiative dedicated to teen mental health. Passionate about supporting peers through adolescence, Nysha has leveraged her experience and training to create resources and host podcasts to foster mental well-being among teenagers. In addition to her work with Mind Matters, Nysha is actively involved in several other mental health initiatives, including serving as a Teen Advisor for Teen Talk, where she provides peer support and crisis intervention, and being a member of LA's suicide prevention network's youth board, advocating for teen mental health on a larger stage. Through her leadership and dedication, Nysha has made an impact, providing a platform for education, discussion, and support on crucial mental health issues.
Karisma Lee co-founded Mind Matters, a non-profit organization initiated as a Gold Award Project. Karisma played a crucial role in developing and building the organization into what it is today. She is passionate about helping others in need and creating a space where peers can access resources and writings on the complex dynamics of teen mental health. Working alongside Nysha, she was dedicated to assisting in this endeavor and is ecstatic to continue building the non-profit. Karisma's involvement with the Teen Talk organization and her Advanced Placement Psychology studies have equipped her with the knowledge to create reliable resources for fellow youth. Through her initiative and commitment, Karisma aims to help a diverse range of youth and develop Mind Matters into a supportive educational space for those in need.
